Velvi (Yagnam)

A person who realizes the yagna philosophy will realize Almighty when he gets detached from all his deeds. If one does yagna to attain perishable worldly things instead of wishing to realize the Almighty, he is said to be unaware of the true meaning of yagna. The desire for perishables is the reason for bondage. Even if one does yagna with great difficulty, his birth and death cycle will still continue, if he does the yagna with desires and bondages in his mind.

All our deeds must be in the form of yagna. Then only our life will become wholesome. (ie) We must do selfless work. We must not have any bondage with any of our deeds and things. Our only bondage is with the Almighty alone. Anyone who has got his body and is eligible to do his duties has the responsibility to do yagna in accordance with the laws of scriptures. The yagna must be done without any expectation of yields in this world or the world after death. It must be done as one's duty.

If one should not have any desire to attain anything then why should one do yagna ? "Doing yagna is our duty". With this thought in mind one must do the yagna happily. Man should not be desirous of the yields of the yagna. The thought that, by doing this yagna we will get the fruits of it either in this world or in heaven", must never arise in oneself.

If we have an aim to do a selfless yagna then we won't have any bondage with that yagna. But if one has a desire in the yield of attaining name, fame and respect in this world and heavenliness after his death, then he will be bound with that yagna. If he does that yagna as his duty then he has no bondage with that yagna. On the contrary all bondages gets detached from him. As there is no selfishness and pride, the mind of that person becomes pure.

The word yagna has a beginning and an end. Just like that its yield also has a beginning and an end. The word and its yields are subject to creation and destruction. But soul is ever existent. This soul gets attached itself to the deeds and their yields. It continues its cycle of birth and death till it detaches itself from the bondage which it itself had created.

If one does yagna with an intention to get name and fame then it is not a yagna. He should not have the desire to be called as a good, sincere, charitable philanthropist by others.
Yagnam is doing deeds for the welfare of others. "Doing penance" means to be always cheerful. Giving things to the owners themselves is charity.

While doing our duty for a yagna, bondages get destroyed. The deeds of karma yogi get destroyed. Such deeds not only destroy his bondages but also the sins done by him in his previous births.

When a yagna is done selflessly at the end of the yagna "equality" will remain there as a Prasaatham-holy yield. The great and primary feature of karma yoga is that it is done with the things which are got from families. Just as those things are engaged in family life that deed becomes a yagna and gets fulfilled. As the velvi becomes fulfilled, yagam becomes the yield of the yagna in the form of prasaatham.

The deeds which are not done for yagna or velvi makes oneself entangled in bondages. But all the sins of a person who does deeds for a yagna gets destroyed. The person who enjoys the residue of the velvi gets himself detached from all bondages. He becomes the reason for all bondages. Sins create bondages. The deeds which are done expecting yields become the reason for bondages as they give yields. When a man enjoys the residue of the velvi he gets a equitable mentality. He has neither sins nor blessings.

While doing a deed for velvi, the Karma yogi has a status of paramathma. As the deed gets fulfilled it becomes one with Paramathma. In a yagna, the mentality of a sanyasin gets importance. We sacrifice food, ghee and other things in the velvi fire. We are sacrificing our things and belongings while doing charity. While doing penance we are sacrificing our joys and sorrows. While doing our duty as per law we sacrifice our selfishness and rest.
